Spring in Greenwich

I know it's hard to believe that we're in March at all, one day it's snowing then it's mild, you just never know what's going to happen from one day to another.

Despite it being rather chilly on Thursday we decided to take a little walk around my local area to see if any signs of Spring were about.

The grassy patches which are usually full of blooming bright daffodils were not. They were still grassy with a few daffodil buds. Nothing like we'd expected to see, a few odd daffs had opened but they were few and far between.  None of the lovely blossom tress have blossomed and only a few trees already have their new buds. Walking around you wouldn't have thought it was March at all.

We did come across a fair few squirrels though and instead of freaking out I let them come a little closer then usual and found that they were really quite friendly.

This one was a little too curious
Then it was off to the local ponds, I love visiting the duckpond in Greenwich Park, No sign of any ducklings yet, and both the males and females were all about so chances are they haven't laid their eggs yet.
It was nice to see a few of the Canadian Geese
Then we headed off to the flower gardens and the deer enclosure, sadly the deer were too far away to get any decent photos. But we did come across this little happy couple. Who were sitting on the grass together and weren't fazed by us at all, they even let us stroke them. Male and female Mallards.

We then headed over to Blackheath the check out how the pondlife was doing. Neither of the ponds had any frogspawn which was quite surprising. Maybe it's been too cold for the frogs to spawn yet or they may already have and the spawn has been destroyed by the ice.

So not much else to report on the local wildlife just yet. Hopefully soon the weather will pick up. This winter has been too damn long.
