You'd Think I'd Know Better By Now

No really you would. Especially after last night.

I had washed my hair like I do any other day, went to dry it and noticed a huge knot. I tried to comb it down and get it out but it wouldn't budge it was wedged. So I decided the only option was to cut it out.

Yes we've all done it but I bet you haven't done what I did.

Trying to be all professional I dug out my hairdressers scissors from the drawer and combed the knot as far as I could shift it. Naturally the scissors wouldn't cut. Probably because I'm left handed and can never use these scissors for anything let alone trying to cut hair. So not being defeated, and I don't know why but I got out my paper scissors which I use for cutting everything. Because they're the only scissors I can cut with. So I had a hack at the knot, seriously I looked like a woman possessed.

With the knot lying defeated on the kitchen worktop I looked in the mirror and realised I'd cut a little bit more then I'd anticipated and my usual lovely long hair was no more. Now I'd really done it, here I was with a short section of hair and the rest long. Knowing I'd somehow have to cut the rest to make it at least even. So I did what most women would do first. I called my Mum, probably not the best idea in hindsight. She looked and once we'd finished laughing about it decided she'd have a bash. After a few stabs in the back with the scissors and a few nips and knocks. (Scary to think she was a nurse really) She was done. When I looked in the mirror I said

"Are you serious? Have you seen what you've done?"

I had one side longer then the other and bits sticking out at the back 2 inches longer then the rest. Then she said

"Well I did take my glasses off"

By then I'd had enough and just dried it. It wasn't a pretty sight. I got in touch with my usual hairdresser who can't do it for another 3-4 weeks. I looked round at the local hairdressers and they are so expensive, although I did have one in mind.
So today after explaining it to my very nice Neighbour, she came in tonight and leveled it off. So at least it's even now.

I have to say it feels really weird having such short hair, well I say short, it's about an inch off my shoulders. It feels a lot lighter and I don't really know what to do with it now. I think I'll have it styled into some sort of bob or something or get it layered.

You really would think that at my age I'd be long past these little mishaps. I guess I'll never learn. If I can get it looking somewhat presentable tomorrow I'll add some pics.
