Vegan Detox Diet

Two weeks ago I decided I needed to take some drastic action to clear toxins from my body. Earlier this year I stopped taking the contraceptive pill Microgynon 30 after 9 years. Purely because it was no longer needed and my body needed a break. What I wasn't expecting was how long it'd take to expel the excess hormones from my body. It had begun to feel like my whole body was out of sync and becoming sluggish. I had read online about vegan detox diets which will flush all toxins from your body. So here I'm going to go over what I did.

The vegan detox is not only for women but also for men. Anyone who feels their body needs a spring clean can give it a go. Detoxing is important, if you think of all the toxins we put into our bodies everyday, sooner or later it needs to be cleaned out.

I started my detox last Monday for 7 days. The day before I'd gone out and bought all vegan foods in preparation. I have been a vegetarian for most of my life so I thought I was halfway there. It was a tough week but once you start to feel the effects you'll soon realise it's well worth it. The vegan detox is basically just eating vegan foods, you can detox further by cutting out caffeine, sugar, wheats etc but for me i just stuck to vegan. This is what I was eating for 7 days:

Breakfast

  • Bran flakes with soya milk and a cup of tea with soya milk

Lunches either of these

  • soya sandwich with bread, Pure vegan margarine, Redwoods (Vbites cheatin) vegan cheddar or Redwoods vegan ham (all available from Holland & Barrets)
  • Pita bread filled with salad (very dry as all salad creams, mayonaise contain egg so cannot be eaten.
  • jacket potato with Redwoods vegan cheddar or Pure maragrine.
  • Salad leafs
Dinner

  • Vegetables either steamed, boiled or roasted
  • pasta
  • vegetable soups
I used Alpro original soya milk on my cereals and in tea and it was actually really nice once you get used to it. Basically on this detox plan you can eat whatever you want as long as it contains no dairy, meat or anything which has come from an animal. The examples above are just what I was eating you can adjust it to whatever you want to eat as long as it is completely vegan so no milk, eggs, meats, fish etc,
Whilst on this detox it is important to also take a multivitamin, which I take everyday anyway and drink plenty of filtered or bottled water. It's no good detoxing if you can't flush it out.

You may get a little constipated at the beginning so drink plenty of extra fluids, this shows the detox is working by cleaning out your digestive system. Be prepared for frequent trips to the loo with the extra water intake.

After doing this detox for 7 days I lost 8lbs which was a surprise as I wasn't expecting to loose weight. After completing the 7 day detox I do feel a lot better and I can see it was really worthwhile. I've decided I will do a vegan detox every 3 months just to keep my body working at its best.
